OpenAI Releases GPT-4o Model

In the early morning hours of May 14, OpenAI hosted its spring update broadcast, releasing the GPT-4o model, which turns ChatGPT into a real-time voice assistant with text, “visual” and speech interactions. openAI says the upgraded ChatGPT will have the ability to memorize, learn from previous user conversations, and translate in real time. According to OpenAI, the GPT-4o will be twice as fast as the GPT-4 Turbo, half the price, and open to both free and paid users.

UK Government Agency Releases Open Source Tools for AI Security Testing

On May 10, the U.K. government’s newly established Safety Institute released a suite of tools called Inspect, designed to make it easier for industry, research organizations and academia to develop AI capability assessment tools to strengthen AI security. Inspect marks the first time a state-supported organization has led the release of an AI security testing platform, the press release said.

Inspect is open source under the MIT license, and contains three modules: dataset, solver, and scoring tool, which are responsible for providing samples, performing tests, and aggregating scores. Currently, the tool supports OpenAI, Anthropic, Hugging Face and other modeling platforms, HellaSwag, ARC and other commonly used test datasets in the industry, and also supports the expansion of functions through third-party Python packages. Previously in April, the U.S. Department of Commerce National Institute of Standards and Technology also announced the NIST GenAI program to assess AI generation capabilities.

AMD Increases x86 Processor Market Share

AMD’s share of the server, desktop and mobile x86 processor markets increased further in the first quarter of 2024 compared to the same period last year, according to The Register, citing market researcher Mercury Research. The first quarter of 2024 also marked the first time since the new crown that performance for all types of x86 processors largely returned to normal. Outside of x86, Mercury estimates ARM processor share at 11.1 percent, up from 10.3 percent in the previous quarter.

According to the YooSecurity, Apple executives decided early last year that Siri was obsolete after spending weeks testing the then-new ChatGPT, making generative AI a “pillar program” for the company. Bloomberg also reports that Apple is close to reaching an agreement with OpenAI to include OpenAI’s technology in iOS 18.

Europol Confirms Compromise of Portal

Europol has confirmed that its Europol Expert Platform (EPE) portal has been compromised, according to Bleeping Computer. The hacking group IntelBroker claimed in a forum to have been involved in the incident, stealing files labeled “for official use only,” including employee information, file source code, PDF documents, and more, and showing screenshots of the EPE interface, a small sample of the EC3 SPACE database, a secure platform for cybercrime specialists, and more. IntelBroker also claimed to have hacked into the SIRIUS platform used by the judiciary and law enforcement agencies in 47 countries. Anthropic Allows Users to Use Its AI Model in Products for Minors
On May 11, Anthropic, the developer of the AI model Claude, updated its usage regulations. The update reiterates and refines the prohibition against using it for political lobbying and campaigning, adds a requirement for organizations to follow additional security measures in high-risk use cases, and explicitly prohibits the use of its product to analyze biometric data to infer characteristics such as ethnicity or religious affiliation, as well as the use of its models to create emotion recognition systems in use cases such as interrogation. And for the first time, Anthropic has added a provision that allows companies to integrate their APIs into products aimed at minors if they agree to implement specific safety features and disclose the use of their AI systems.

On May 13, Apple Music announced the launch of its first-ever Top 100 Best Albums of All Time. The list was created by the Apple Music music team in collaboration with music industry professionals. For ten consecutive days from the launch date, Apple Music will reveal the Top 100 Albums through a countdown countdown, a dedicated Top 100 Albums webpage at 100best.music.apple.com, including in-depth analysis of each album, historical interviews and more. The final ten albums will be revealed on May 22nd.
