BROWN MARSH TASK 2.5: SALINITY AND CLIMATE DRIVER DATA BASE ERICK M. SWENSON: COASTAL ECOLOGY INSTITUTE, LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY JOHN M. GRYMES III: DEPARTMENT OF GEOGRAPHY, LOUISIANA STATE UNIVERSITY PRELIMINARY DATA BASE FILES: APRIL, 2002 The data files on this disk are the preliminary versions of the data salinity and climate driver data base being compiled for the Brown Marsh Project. The data files are organized into the following general categories: 1. Salinity data files 2. Riverflow data files 3. Water level data files 4. Climate data files This document is a general summary of the data base files. There are data documentation files (.txt files) on the CD for the various data bases. ------------------------- ------------------------- The salinity data files contains salinity from the following sources: 1. The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF) 2. The United States Fish and Wildlife Service (USFWS) This disk contains daily mean salinity from several stations: 1. LDWF Station 315 - Grand Terre Laboratory 2. LDWF Station 317 - St. Mary's Point in Barataria Bay 3. LDWF Station 326 - Little Lake in Barataria Bay 4. LDWF Station 518 - Sister Lake (Caillou Lake) 5. LDWF Station 619 - Cypremort Point 6. LDWF Station 719 - Cameron 7. USFWS Station BUS - Located in the Sabine Refuge This disk also contains hourly salinity data from the following stations: 1. LDWF Station 315 - Grand Terre Laboratory 2. LDWF Station 317 - St. Mary's Point in Barataria Bay 3. LDWF Station 326 - Little Lake in Barataria Bay The final data base will also include salinity data from other sources: 1. The USCOE 2. The Louisiana Department of Health and Hospitals (DHH) 3. The Louisiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) 4. The Louisiana Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) ------------------------- ------------------------- The Riverflow data is from the United States Army Corps of Enginers (USCOE) and the United States Geological Survey (USGS). This preliminary data disk has data from the Mississippi River and the Atchafalaya River. 1. Mississippi River daily discharge at Tarberts Landing 2. Mississippi River daily stage at Carrollton (New Orleans) 3. Atchafalaya River daily discharge at Simmesport 4. Atchafalaya River daily stage at Morgan City 5. Annual mean summary data file The final data base will also include riverflow from other major rivers arouund the northern Gulf of Mexico. All of this data is available through the following web site: http://www.mvn.usace.army.mil/eng/eng.asp ------------------------- ------------------------- The water level data base contains files from the National Ocean Survey (NOS). The data files include: 1. 3-hour mean water levels for the NOS gage at Grand Isle 2. Monthly sea levels for gages arouund the Gulf of Mexico 3. Tidal constituents for stations around the Gulf of Mexico 4. Hourly water level for stations around the Gulf of Mexico (Jan1999-Jul2000) This data is available on the web through the following web site: http://co-ops.nos.noaa.gov/ ------------------------- ------------------------- The climate data files include: 1. New Orleans Daily Precipitation 2. Monthly Palmer Drought Severity Index (PDSI) for Louisiana coastal climate divisions 3. Montly precipitation for Louisiana coastal climate divisions 4. Maps of the United States showing the PDSI from 1990 to 2001 by quarter 5. Maps of the United States showing precipitation from 1990 to 2000 by quarter 6. Power point presentation of item 5 7. Power point presentation of item 6 These data are available throught the following web sites: http://lwf.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/ncdc.html http://lwf.ncdc.noaa.gov/oa/climate/onlineprod/drought/xmgr.html#gr
